It’s the Great Depression and Bumpy doesn’t wanna shine shoes or carry bags for white men. According to Johnson the numbers provide jobs to 2000 black Harlemites and Gordon says the odds of a dime to $6 can provide groceries for a month. Francine encourages Bumby that there are colored accountants, doctors and lawyers, at first she makes fun of his street name ‘Bumpy’ and instead calls him Ellsworth. He’s not going to change but we see his charisma when he recites a poem about her eyes. When Bumpy and Gordon rob Schultz's men they go to the UNIA soup line and give all the money they stole directly to the people.
Joy Ride Review
Joy Ride is proof raunchy comedies are here to stay. Writer/director Judd Apatow made a name in this genre from Knocked Up to 40 Year Old Virgin. These films made Steve Carrell, Paul Rudd & Jonah Hill household names. Apatow in 2011 produced Bridemaids starring SNL alum Maya Rudolph & Kristen Wiig. This, I feel, … Continue reading Joy Ride Review
Shooting Stars Review
Another thing I really love about this movie is its honesty. With LeBron’s production company SpringHill putting up the money for it I worried they’d give a sanitized look at his life. Instead we see real to life teenagers who curse, drink before legal age, sneak out to parties and it gives the film more credibility. There’s a sense of rawness that is conveyed and it’s a testament to the people in front and behind the cameras who made this movie possible.
For Life S1E6 Review: Burner
This is the half way point of the first season of For Life. We’re following Aaron Wallace as he’s been currently incarcerated for the past nine years. He recently has received a breakthrough with him now being in possession of his confidential police file.
For Life S1E5 Review: Witness
The last episode Marie, was my favorite episode of the series so far.The way they handled time and the acting performance from Joy Bryant as Marie was Emmy worthy. This week we are back in present day and the story is continuing. I’m glad we get to see more of Henry Roswell. He is the former state … Continue reading For Life S1E5 Review: Witness
For Life S1E4 Review: Marie
I love this this show isn’t just focusing on Aaron’s journey. It seems like this episode is all about Marie. She even has a voiceover speaking of how she felt blessed, safe and secure. That she believed that there would be “time for everything”.
For Life S1E3 Review: Brother’s Keeper
I’ve recently gotten back into writing reviews for this show and since the world has essentially stopped waiting out this pandemic I feel there’s no time like the present to continue what I’ve started. Aaron Wallace was plucked from his friends and family accused of a crime he hasn’t committed. He has been sentenced to serve life in prison and being ever resourceful he becomes a lawyer while incarcerated and is now serving as prison rep for his fellow inmates.
Death. Taxes. LeBron James
In the last 10 years there's been one constant in the NBA & that is LeBron James being the best basketball player in the world. His 8 straight trips to the NBA Finals is an accomplishment that only Russell's Celtics have done. His dismantling of the Toronto Raptors brings memories of Jordan crushing the Knicks or more aptly the Cavs. His dissection of the Raptors was so complete that he was nicknamed LeThanos after the Avengers villain and the city was dubbed by a commentator, "LeBronto". His secret weapon? His longevity.
For Life S1E2 Review: Promises
Life is complicated. I really enjoy this show and all the webs it weaves. There's connections from both minor and major characters that are intriguing moving forward.
For Life S1E1 Review: Pilot
After finishing The Good Place I was searching for a new show to watch. As a fan of 50 Cent’s transition into film I heard about his moves with the STARZ network and his production company, G-Unit Film and Television. This is how I first found out about this new series on ABC, For Life. … Continue reading For Life S1E1 Review: Pilot
