Student Athlete Review

The NCAA would have to take a serious look at the lie that is ‘student-athlete’ and find ways to properly compensate these players who risk injury while biding their time. Let’s hope change truly comes because right now these players are getting screwed. And they truly need to be properly compensated for there talents and by that I mean receiving percentages of those billion dollar March Madness and hundred million dollar apparel deals.

Why I Love Brooklyn Nine Nine

Though it’s a comedy there’s a way they tackle issues that is refreshing. It remains itself and not a “Very Special Episode” whenever it talks about police brutality or gender roles. In fact it uses these topics as ways to bring even more jokes. There’s an episode where Diaz and Boyle are paired together and are wearing body cameras. Well shenanigans ensure and Boyle is caught in a compromising position and it’s all captured through the body cams. And because it’s a drug case and there are drugs in the background it’s used as evidence to bring a crook down.

Superstore Review – Confessions of a Romantic Comedy Lover

Unlike HIMYM where Ted pines over Robin then when he finally gets her we see why and the series shows over again why they shouldn’t work out but then retcon the series to put them together again in the finale.

Or the original where Ross and Rachel pioneered the “will they, won’t they” story in network television.

This show just brings in new characters for Jonah and Amy to be with but the difference is there’s no foundation of the relationship other than friendship.

Their timing is never right and even when they’re given ways to get out of their relationships *cough Jonah cough* they chose to never risk it even with the prospect of love.

Wild ‘N Out – The New Generation’s In Living Color

There have been episodes that have turned to events.

When Chance The Rapper came to the show it was reminiscent of when Kanye West came to the Wild ’N Out stage, both received multiple Grammy awards and it was truly a great moment.

With Chance’s episode there was just an electric energy and that turned into an hour special.

With the Season 11 premiere Nick was able to revisit his childhood & his Nickelodeon beginnings where there was an All That Takeover including SNL’s Kenan Thompson surprise entrance.

Grown-ish S1E10 Review: It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp

All through the episode the writers kept surprising me that they were actually going there.

It spoke on how Black women along with Asian men are the least chosen or preferred on dating sites where as White and Asian women thrive across all platforms.

There was talk on the ranking of women from Latinas who have African features to how men prefer even more than a Kylie Jenner a Gal Gadot because of factors like her accent.

“Everybody is checking for the girl who looks Black but not checking for the one who actually is. Which is why everyone is suddenly getting lip injections and ass shots and rocking Timbs” - Sky and Jazz

Atlanta S2E1 Review: Florida Man

They show why the backdrop of the show is called Robbin’ Season with the two men attempted to rob the spot once knowing the information was legit.

Then it switches over to the main story picking up where the finale left off.

One thing I enjoyed about this episode is that it felt like there was continuity.

I know the goal was to make it like Tiny Toons Adventure where you could just pick up any episode and not be lost but the fact that there was story progression was special.

Why I Love Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

From the costuming and how the bountiful colors bounce off the screen to use of flashbacks to further a concept this show is brilliant and I’m glad it won the Golden Globe for Best Television Series in the comedy category.

If you haven’t seen it search for the pilot on YouTube and try out Amazon Prime to enjoy great writing played by terrific actors.

Representation Is Important – How Ugly Betty succeed in creating LGBTQ characters

In a world where marriage equality is recognized across the United States and transwomen like Janet Mock and Laverne Cox are being acclaimed, though nowhere near perfect, it's fascinating to look at media with a current perspective.

I truly believe representation is important and I believe Ugly Betty is a good example of this.

This America Ferrera led show takes a look at the inner workings of Mode magazine and the Shakespearean battle for power between the players.

Besides it being a great show in its own right one thing I felt was great about this show was how they dealt with LGBTQ issues.

Why I Love Black-ish

This is my new favorite show.

Now that the TGIF era is over and watching media is more splintered the tradition of a mass amount of people coming together to watch appointment television no longer happens.

Out of this streaming era there are shows from cable to streaming that still effect watchers in a deep way.

For me that is ABC’s Black-ish.

Why I Love Girl Meets Ski Lodge

I love that their take wasn't classic Boy Meets World.

Even though I thought they wanted Lucas and Riley to be the next Cory and Topanga they took the Frozen angle and highlighted that Riley's greatest relationship was her friendship with Maya. This was seen in the ending conversation of this episode but also in Girl Meets Sixteen where Riles is unsure of what will happen with her and Lucas but they both are definite in how their relationship with be even stronger.
